Project Guidelines - Due April 27

These are the themes of The Life of Frederick Douglass:

1. Ignorance as a tool of slavery

2. Knowledge as the path to freedom

3. Slavery's damaging effect on slaveholders

4. Slaveholding as a perversion of Christianity

Pick one of these themes to explore through one of these projects:

1. Create a graphic novel with pictures and dialogue from the autobiography. You must have at least 15 strips with 3 boxes in each strip.

2. Re-write the autobiography in a play form. You must have at least 10 scenes. You can choose different scenes from the book to perform.

3. Make up a musical group and write an album about the autobiography. Have an appropriate name for your group and your album. Have album artwork, liner notes and lyrics. You must have at least 10 songs.

You must:

1. Identify your theme and provide supporting evidence/examples from the text as well as pull in information/observations from other sources and/or your own experiences.

2. Choose a group and give each person in your group a role. No more than 3 in a group. Choose carefully! Once you choose a group, there is NO switching. Also, when you hand in the project, you will hand in an evaluation of your partner(s) which will be part of the grade.

3. Present your project to the class.
